Smoke had settled in the forest and mixed with the fog, and a light mist was born. As the sun rose above the pine trees and tried to shine through the thickening haze, it created a unique, almost eerie color combination. As I sat on a log watching this phenomenon, a giant moose emerged from the mist and began grazing along the edge of the Madison River. I took several good photos. What a perfect subject and atmosphere for an instructional painting in this book! Notice the change in the mood. Create a soft gray mixture of Titanium White (gesso), Ultramarine Blue, a touch of Burnt Sienna and a touch of either Cadmium Red Light or Dioxazine Purple.
